Energy Conservation, Electricity Conservation, Save Money on Energy
To lower the amount of energy and electricity you use in your residence and help reduce the cost of your electricity bills, there are a few simple things you can do. The key is to focus on how and where you use electricity for these items.
(1) Instead of using a dishwasher to dry dishes, allow them to air dry
(2) Turn off appliances and electronics that burn energy even while you're not using them, such as computers, cell phone chargers, battery charges, etc. By using something as simple as a power strip to turn off your computer, you can save money.
(3) Use appliances that have the Energy Star label, which shows that they reduce energy consumption
(4) Install motion detectors that allow the lights to turn on and off when you're not in the room.
(5) Avoid leaving the oven door open too long while you're cooking; try to only open the freezer door when necessary, etc
(6) Use cold water in laundry, rather than hot, to save energy
(7) Fix water faucets that leak water - only one drop of hot water per second can cost as much as $50 per year
(8) Install double pane windows to prevent energy loss on hot or cold days
(9) Have extra thick insulation put into your walls to prevent energy loss
(10) Shorten the time that you spend in the shower - by saving the amount of hot water you use, you reduce the energy spent on heating that water
(11) Use Compact Fluorescent (CFL) lights - changing just one regular 75-watt light bulb to a fluorescent one can save between $10 and $20 per year.
(12) Use regular fans for circulating the air inside your home or office, rather than running full-size air conditioners central air conditioning systems
